After the rain
What a beautiful morning to walk to school! I love this time of year - everything is just starting to wake up. This is a Japanese maple on the way home, with a raindrop being lit by the sun.

Signs of Spring
Today on our walk to school, we noticed our first sign that spring is on it's way. This is a bud opening on a low willow (I think) on the forest floor. So full of hope.

Daily Walk to School
I haven't posted one in a while, but we are still walking almost every day. We reached our millionth step milestone just before Christmas! (it's about 2km each way to our school).
It was a cold morning, and I have to post this very cool phenomena that occurs here when the temperature fluctuates around the freezing mark. When water logged wood starts to freeze, the water expands as it turns to ice. This ice is then forced out of the pores of the wood, it's only escape route out of the wood. The result is this delicate icy hair that "grows" out of the dead wood.
